Ideal events/places to go to?

CK asked:

I’m making a list of great events and places people want to go to all around the world such as the Superbowl, Olympics, Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival etc. Or even great places to go to like Paris, Egypt, Swiss Alps.
Could anyone help me name some more popular events and places to go to? Thank you!

Story of a Sign?

daogress asked:

Someone sent me an e-mail with a link to a You-Tube video called The Story of a Sign. I guess it originally was at flixxy.com, because that was where the link took me to, but
it was a You-Tube video. Anyway, It says it is no longer available. No matter how often I search, I can’t find a place to view it. It said it was a winner at the Cannes Film Festival.
Any tips or ideas as to why I can’t view it, and/or where I could possibly view it?

Why are there so few female movie directors?

dominique asked:

I’ve wondered this, in this day and age, why female directors are so grossly outnumbered - in all countries. For instance, there are only two women directors in this year’s Cannes Film Festival (for films in competition). There are plenty of female producers, writers, and some of the best film editors have been women. Why is it so hard for women to break into directing?
I actually am familiar with the industry, and I did go to film school and I work in tv, so I am well aware that there are many female producers, studio heads, writers and editors. There are also plenty of female directors in tv & documentary. Just wanted to get some opinions on why there are relatively few women that direct narrative feature length films in this day and age - why aren’t more Deepa Mehta’s, Lina Wertmuller’s (1st woman to be nominated for Best Direction Oscar) or even Kathryn Bigelow’s emerging?

How many of the Palm d’Or nominees have you seen?

imminent_lobotomy asked:

I compiled a Google document of all of the nominees in the history of the Cannes Film Festival.

How many of these have you seen? The list is pretty long.

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dgrssz7p_19cnnf5vhp&hl=en

Movies I’ve seen have ten dashes next to them. I’m gonna try to watch all of the nominees of the 2000s, as well as the winners, by the end of the decade. ^^

How would you deal with this controlling person?

Lisa M asked:

I am a screenwriter and I am dealing with a producer who is so, so controlling and manipulative. I am grateful for this opportunity and I am continuing with the work such as re-writes, etc. but this woman is driving me nuts! She hired a team to help produce a demo dvd of my screenplay; a writer for the treatment (getting paid $200 plus first right of refusal of the script if produced), a composer to compose music from the treatment (getting paid $1500 USD for the dvd only and first right of refusal for the film), and the producer herself who I am paying $2500 USD plus airfair, hotel accomodations, and expenses at the Cannes Film Festival and first right of refusal for the film. The entire ‘team’ had a chat a couple weeks ago, but only 3 people could get into the chat at a time, so the composer chatted with the producer and the writer first, then the composer left the chat to let me in….finally. When I got into the chat, I brought up an error that the writer made on the title of a character. I have maintained that the character is a foreign minister as opposed to the Prime Minister which the writer mistakenly named him as in the treatment. In all my versions of the script (which the producer has) I referred to the character as either ‘minister’ or ‘foreign minister’ and I tried to point that out but the writer retorted, ‘Oh a little research can fix that’. I replied, ‘Well I have worked on this for 4 years and I have done the research and he is not the prime minister but a minister.’. This wirter has a fairly large ego, to say the least. In almost every correspondence with him he feels the need to add in how many people were at his auditions and who he’s writing for at the moment, etc. Perhaps I’m a bit jealous, but if he was so great why would he need to brag so much? But I digress, the producer then said that perhaps I ‘missed a word’ implying that even after 4 years I don’t know the history of the story. (It’s based on true events). Anyway, I later told her that the writer messed up the treatment so badly that the composer couldn’t tell what was going on. She blamed his confusion on my script and not the inaccurate and careless treatment of the writer! Meanwhile the composer admitted that it was the treatment of the other writer that threw him off. The producer is getting everyone, including the composer (go figure), to offer suggestions for the script, which I am grateful for, but 80% of them are already touched on in the script. What can I do? I am paying these people big money and I feel left behind in the dust.

Do the actors and actreses really have sex in HBO’s “Tell Me You Love Me”?

slykwylie07 asked:

I just saw episode six and the sex scene with ( I believe her name is– ) Katie and the new guy looked very real because it
showed hit balls and the base of his penis under her.

I know its easy to create the illusion but she didn’t look like she was wearing any garment or any usual tricks they use.

Also, I also know that occasionally they really do perform actual sex acts on film like in that one movie shown at the Cannes Film Festival where the female lead performs fellatio on the male lead when in real life they are a couple.

Is Michael Moores illegal trip to Cuba just another personality flaw of crazy liberals?

ludistreber asked:

Appearing to bestow on him the kind of free publicity that has made Michael Moore the best-known and best paid documentary filmmaker in the business, the U.S. Treasury Department has notified the filmmaker that it is conducting an investigation to determine whether he violated the U.S. trade embargo when he took a group of 9/11 rescue workers to Cuba for treatment. The Cuba journey is included in Moore’s upcoming documentary about the U.S. health-care system, Sicko, due to debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. According to the Associated Press the government notice said that the Treasury Department had “no record that a specific license was issued authorizing you to engage in travel-related transactions involving Cuba.” The A.P. said that after receiving the notice, Moore placed a copy of his film in a “safe house” outside the country. Meanwhile, Daily Variety reported today (Thursday) that The Weinstein Co., which is releasing the film had hired Chris Lehane, Al Gore’s press secretary during the 2000 campaign, and New York publicist Ken Sunshine to handle the expected flak from the health-care industry over the film. “If the HMOs strike, I’m going to need two guys who can strike back,” Harvey Weinstein told Variety.
