Max U asked:

Park Chan-wook is one of Korea’s most prestigious directors.

Recently there has been talks of Parks Oldboy, being remade by America, predicted to be directed by Steven Speilberg with Will Smith as Oldboy.

Someone else was already trying to remake this film and it fell through because the film was somewhat blamed for what happened at Virginia Tech. I think that Spielberg will ruin this film so that’ll piss me off, why is there this idea that films need to be redone just because they are foreign? Oldboy is one of my fav films there is no need to remake this. To be honest I don’t think Chan Wook Park’s work has much affect on Western films at the moment if only because we are so limited in what content we can use. Yes we say we don’t censor but then we slap MPAA ratings on films and theatres refuse to show unrated or 18+ because it won’t make as much money. Park’s work is so raw and free you really feel for the characters, you can laugh one minute and the next be completely shocked by what you are seeing. His control over the emotions of his viewers is something I have seen no other director be able to do. I am sure if they remake Oldboy they will move on to Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance. Sigh.
